Ok guys Im ready to put up my first video here and my laptop which is 2.5years old has no firewire connection. It has USB but my PD 170 does not. The camera only has firewire. What are my options to getting my video in the puter so I can edit them? The fella at Best Buy says my computer is no good for editing and it would take me days to edit even a small video. I think he was just tryin to sell another puter, or could he be right?

Thanks

Erich

Get a converter kit. You can find them with interchangeable ends, and put firewire on one end and usb on the other.

Hope that works!

At 1.5 GHz it'll be slooow but I dont see why you couldn't edit. Its got 512 MB DDR SDRAM but only 80GB hard drive. Id get an extra hard drive to store videos.

Yea but Id be more concerned with getting the camcorder hooked up first.
Id try WILDWORKS suggestion first and if you cant get that to work I'm sure someone can add a video card with a 1394/firewire port.
...........Id try to edit something and see where you stand !

I bet that one will do everything you want to do and more. Let me know if you need anything. I dont know if that suggestion I made will work or not, my wife is a video tech at the school and she suggested it. I know I have used those adapters on a firewire cable before and it worked I just cant remember what i was hooking up, lol. I thought it might be worth a shot. Good Luck.

Yes it has a Firewire port...lol I was gonna go that route Kyle They have a card that you put in the puter and has 2 6 pin firewire ports then ya need the 6 to 4 pin firewire cable....all that together was over a hundred bucks so I figured.....heck I'm buyin NEW! The new HP takes 4 to 4 pin firewire cable which I already have cause my buddy from the Fire dept had a 4 to 4 on his puter which we edited the hunt on to begin with... So I'll keep yall posted thanks for all your help! Ive got ALOT of editing to do have 4 kills and 25hrs of tape...just from this season!

Thanks again fellas!
